Toshikatsu ENDO

Untitled < Untitled >

1983

Wood, water, tar, rope
660cm*90cm*30cm
The artist became active in the 1970's, creating fundamental forms like circles and rectangles with such materials as water, wood, fire, and soil first, last and all the time. This work was completed by binding with a rope two old utility poles painted with black tar, on which he made three holes. The object was floated on a lake with two holes filled with water and the remaining one hole burned until scorched black. It is a work filled with a sense of existence retaining primordial memories in a stoic form.
